Sorghum Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

January 17, 2011

At the end of the summer, our CSA farmer included Sorghum Molasses in our baskets.

For some reason, at the end of the season, some CSA-ers forget to pick up their baskets – or assume that the deliveries had stopped.

So I scored some extra baskets which left me with 3 or 4 quarts of Sorghum!

Many people think that Sorghum or Sorghum Molasses is the same thing as Blackstrap Molasses or plain ol’ Molasses.

Au contraire mon fraire…

Sorghum is a more ‘whole’ food (a pure syrup that comes from a plant) than plain ol’ Molasses (which is a by-product of the sugar refining process)

Check out a more ‘official’ explanation here.

So now I’m trying to use up all of this Sorghum.

Of course, the first thing that came to mind was COOKIES!

Here is the recipe for Sorghum Oatmeal Raisin Cookies.

Cookies ready for the oven.

C0okies packaged and ready to give away!

Stay tuned for more recipes… I have another 2 and a half quarts to use!
